Fine Imposed on Jasprit Bumrah After First India-England Test

Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah received a reprimand on Monday for breaking the ICC Code of Conduct during the first Test against England in Hyderabad.

The incident occurred on the fourth day of the match when Bumrah deliberately obstructed Ollie Pope while he was running.

The incident occurred in the 81st of England’s second innings when Bumrah deliberately stepped in Ollie Pope’s way as he went for a run, leading to inappropriate physical contact,” the ICC said in a press release.

This resulted in inappropriate physical contact, which led to Bumrah breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct. According to the ICC, this breach involves inappropriate physical contact with any player, umpire, match referee, or other personnel during an international match. As it was Bumrah’s first offense in two years, he received one demerit point.

The charge was filed by on-field umpires Paul Reiffel and Chris Gaffaney, third umpire Marais Erasmus, and fourth umpire Rohan Pandit. Typically, Level 1 breaches result in an official reprimand, a fine of up to 50% of the player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.

Bumrah admitted to the offense and accepted the sanction imposed by Richie Richardson, the match referee from the Emirates ICC Elite Panel, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.
