Former West Indies Cricketer, Brain Lara backs Indian Skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli World Cup Performance. The two Indian batters are facing heavy criticism from fans due to their poor performance in the World Cup 2024.
There have been suggestions to move Virat Kohli World Cup to a different spot in the batting order, possibly to number three. Kohli has only scored five runs overall in India’s three T20 World Cup matches, with his best score coming against Pakistan at four runs. In the most recent India vs. USA game, Kohli was out of luck.
Regarding Rohit, his sole significant score came against Ireland in India’s opening Twenty20 World Cup 2024 encounter, where he amassed 52 runs. However, he only managed 13 and 3 innings against Pakistan and the USA.
Lara, on the other hand, has pushed India to stick with their opening duo and shown support for them.
“I believe that the combination India is having and India has to back the two of them [Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma]. At some point in time, they’re going to come good with conditions, the batting conditions in the USA were not the very best. I don’t believe you start making changes especially if you’re winning,” the Windies great stated as quoted by Hindustan Times.

Additionally, he made the point that although India might have changed their opening duo, they went with two excellent players who have so far performed admirably for their country.
“Definitely, India had the option to play a left-right opening partnership. They went with two great players, two guys who’ve done a great job for India with the bat for their individual franchise as well in terms of the captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. I think they’ve got to stick with it as you just said if you do make changes on top, Virat Kohli has to come in the order a little bit lower and that’s going to upset things there,” he added.
