India secured a convincing 228-run victory over Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2023 showdown on Sunday in Colombo.

India’s team posted a total of 357 runs while batting first, with the loss of 2 wickets by the end of the first innings.

In chase of a 357-run target, Pakistan was held to 128-8 in 32 overs. Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf did not bat due to injuries.

Play in the Pakistan-India match during the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 commenced after a rain delay. However, as soon as the players took to the field, India quickly asserted their dominance.

In the Indian team’s opening partnership, Team captain Rohit Sharma partnered with Shubman Gill.

They both provided a fantastic start to the team, and no Pakistani pacer could break this opening duo until Shadab took the wicket of the Indian Captain at 121 runs. Rohit scored a half-century for his team but out on 56 runs.

Shubman Gill got out shortly after Rohit’s departure, but their partnership had indeed provided an excellent start for the India Team. Shubman Gill was out for 58 runs, including 10 boundaries.

The real contest began after the dismissals of these two players. That’s when two of India’s top batsmen, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, took control of the game and steered it in India’s favor.

While this pair didn’t quite reach their 1000-run partnership milestone, both of them played exceptionally well and scored remarkable centuries for their team.

Virat Kohli, the favorite batsman across all formats, played an innings of 122 runs. Not only did he become the fastest to reach 13,000 runs, but he also achieved his 47th ODI century.

KL Rahul, who recently rejoined the India squad, made a strong impact with a brilliant innings of 111 runs, including 12 fours and 2 sixes.

They both played a pivotal role in dismantling the entire Pakistani bowling lineup.

Spinner Kuldeep Yadav was the standout performer among the Indian bowlers, finishing with impressive figures of 5-25 in eight overs.

In a disappointing batting performance by Pakistan, Fakhar Zaman was the top-scorer with 27 runs off 50 balls.

Agha Salman and Iftikhar Ahmed both contributed 23 runs each to the total.

Pakistan’s star batsman and captain, Babar Azam, managed to score only 10 runs off 24 balls before being bowled by a brilliant delivery from Hardik Pandya.

Earlier today, Pakistani fast bowler Haris Rauf sidelined from the India-Pakistan clash as a precautionary step. He had bowled only five overs during the innings.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) issued a brief statement, stating, “Haris Rauf will not continue to bowl in the Asia Cup Super 4 match against India as a precautionary measure. He experienced some discomfort in his right flank during the match yesterday.”

The statement further mentioned, “He subsequently underwent a precautionary MRI, which did not reveal any tear. He is currently under the observation of the team’s medical panel.”

Pakistan’s next match is scheduled against Sri Lanka, who are co-hosting the Asia Cup 2023 with Pakistan. To stay updated on Pakistan Cricket Updates, please continue to follow us.
