January 2024 ICC Player of the Month Revealed

West Indies fast bowler Shamar Joseph clinched the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for January 2024, beating out competitors Ollie Pope from England and Josh Hazlewood from Australia. This award marks the first monthly recognition of the year.

According to the ICC, Joseph’s rise to prominence has been remarkable, especially considering his limited international experience.

In just two matches, he has made a significant impact. During his debut Test against Australia, Joseph impressed by dismissing the world’s No.2 ranked batter, Steve Smith, with his very first delivery.

He went on to claim five wickets for 94 runs in that match, showcasing his potential. In the second Test in Brisbane, he outdid himself with a stellar performance, securing seven wickets for 68 runs, contributing significantly to West Indies’ victory over Australia.

Throughout the series, Joseph also showcased his batting skills, scoring a total of 57 runs across two Tests, with a respectable average of 28.50. His bowling prowess was even more impressive, with a total of 13 wickets at an outstanding average of 17.30.

Joseph’s rapid rise and outstanding performances have earned him well-deserved recognition as the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for January 2024.
