Star Australian batsman David Warner etched his name in the history books during the first T20I match between wi vs aus in Hobart on Friday.
The left-handed opener smashed a blistering 70 runs off just 36 balls, showcasing his remarkable talent with one six and 12 boundaries. Partnering with Josh Inglis, Warner stitched a formidable 93-run opening stand.
This milestone marked Warner’s 100th appearance in T20 internationals. Notably, Warner had previously achieved remarkable feats in his 100th Test and ODI matches as well.
In his 100th Test match against South Africa at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in December 2023, Warner displayed sheer dominance by scoring a double century. His magnificent innings of 200 runs off 255 balls propelled Australia to victory.
Similarly, in his 100th ODI against India at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru in 2017, Warner dazzled with a splendid knock of 124 runs, leading Australia to triumph once again.
With this latest achievement, Warner became the first player to score 50-plus runs in his 100th match across all three formats of the game. He now stands alongside cricketing greats like Ross Taylor and Virat Kohli in the elite club of players with 100 appearances across formats.
Looking ahead, Warner is now eyeing to surpass 3,000 runs in T20Is, aiming to follow in the footsteps of former Australian captain Aaron Finch. At present, Warner has accumulated 2,964 runs in 100 matches, including one century and 25 half-centuries.
As of the time of reporting, Australia had set a challenging target of 214 runs for West Indies.
