Sohail Tanvir Named Head of Junior Selection Committee

Sohail Tanvir, the former Pakistani pacer, has just been appointed as the head of the junior selection committee, according to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announcement.

His initial task in this new role will be to pick the Pakistan U19 squad for the upcoming 2023 ACC U19 Asia Cup, set to take place from 8th to 17th December in the UAE. Following this, Pakistan U19 is gearing up for the ICC U19 World Cup scheduled between the 13th of January and the 4th of February in Sri Lanka.

With a career tally of 130 wickets across different formats for Pakistan, Sohail Tanvir expressed his gratitude for this opportunity presented by Chairman PCB Management Committee Zaka Ashraf.

“It’s a massive responsibility to chair this committee, and I’m eagerly embracing this exciting challenge” said Sohail

“I firmly believe in the potential of our young talent, and together, we aim to carve a pathway from grassroots to international success. Our immediate focus will be shaping the U19 squad for the ACC U19 Asia Cup, preparing for a competitive showing in the ICC U19 World Cup next year.”

In other recent developments, former pacer Wahab Riaz has been appointed as the new chief selector for the Pakistan cricket team, following his retirement from international cricket after 154 matches. He’s now tasked with picking the squad for Australia’s upcoming Test tour.

The PCB has been actively reshaping the Pakistan men’s cricket team setup in the past few days. Babar Azam recently resigned from captaincy across formats, paving the way for Shan Masood to take over as Test captain, while Shaheen Shah Afridi has been designated as the T20I captain. Additionally, Mohammad Hafeez has been named both Team Director and head coach.
