Babar Azam is set to return as Pakistan Team captain in the Upcoming T20I series against New Zealand on home ground, as per reports.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has just announced its decision regarding the Pakistan Team captain. Babar previous after ICC World Cup 2023 has resigned from the captaincy in all three formats.
The new seven-member selection committee has recommended that Babar Azam is the best option to take the Pakistan team command.
Shaheen Shah Afridi will step down as team captain. Shaheen made history only Pakistan Captain to be removed after a series. Pakistan Team played a 5 games series under Shaheen’s captaincy. Shaheen replaced earlier Babar from t20I captaincy and Shan Masood replaced him from Test Cricket.
The action was taken by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) which wants to decide Shaheen’s future as captain after the ongoing Kakul fitness Camp that will end on April 8.
Even I don’t know who the captain will be, Whether Shaheen continues or a new captain comes in will be determined after the fitness camp [On Monday].
There are several technical factors we will consider, the details of which I do not want to go into. We want a long-term solution, whether it’s Shaheen or a new man. And then we intend to stick by that man, instead of just changing a captain just because you lose a match or captain, Chairman PCB said.
Babar Azam was removed from the captaincy spot from all formats, after his long captaincy tenure and leading position in ODI and other formats in November.
Babar Azam was selected as white-ball captain back in 2019 and Test captain for the Pakistan Team in 2020, But the team has not won any big titles like the Asia Cup or ICC event Babar commanded.
