In the first innings West Indies posted a total of 180 runs, and the English team easily chased down the given target in 17.3 overs.

Phil Salt and Jonny Bairstow made a big partnership of 97 runs in just 44 deliveries and brought a much-needed victory for the team. Both batters break the West Indies 8 game winning streak in the T20 World Cup 2024.

With 87 runs in 47 balls, including five sixes and seven fours, Salt was still undefeated. He unleashed a powerful knock in the 16th over, batting Roland Shepherd for thirty runs.

In addition, Bairstow contributed a vital 48 runs in 26 balls with five fours and two maximums.

The West Indies, who were eliminated in the first round of the T20 World Cup 2024, were led by Andre Russell and Roston Chase, who both claimed one wicket.

Earlier, West Indies bowled first after winning the toss and posting 180-4 in 20 overs.

The West Indies got off to a strong start, scoring 36-0 in four overs thanks to openers Johnson Charles and Brandon King.

But in the fifth over of the innings, King was forced to retire due to what appeared to be a groin injury sustained when taking a shot against Sam Curran. Before leaving the field, he had scored 23 runs off of 13 balls.

Charles, having replaced King at the crease, hit 38 runs in 34 balls and added 54 with Nicholas Pooran in 41.

West Indies needed a big batting performance in the second half of the innings as they were down 82/0 after ten overs. Captain Rovman Powell delivered with a blazing cameo of 36 runs in 17 balls, including five sixes.

However, England managed to contain the Windies hitters in the final five overs, giving up 43 runs and taking a couple of wickets in the process.

Sherfane Rutherford scored four and two maximums to stay undefeated at 28 runs in 15 balls.

With stats of 1-21 in four overs, Adil Rashid was England’s best bowler. Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, and Jofra Archer also each took one wicket.

For both teams, this was their first match in the T20 World Cup Super 8 round.
