In the fourth Test match between England vs India, India won by five wickets in a tight finish at Ranchi’s JSCA International Stadium Complex on Monday.
With this win, India secured an unbeatable 3-1 lead in the five-match series. Shubman Gill scored a solid fifty not out, guiding India to victory while chasing a target of 192 runs.
Despite a slow start where India went from 84 for 0 to 120 for 5, Gill and Dhruv Jurel guided the ship with an unbeaten partnership of 72 runs for the sixth wicket.
Reflecting on the match, Gill mentioned that although England’s bowling created pressure, India’s strategy was to avoid giving away maidens and focus on picking singles. Shoaib Bashir took three wickets for England but couldn’t prevent India’s victory.
In the first innings of England vs India, Ben Stokes’s team scored 353 runs, leading by 46 runs after India’s 307. However, England’s second innings collapsed dramatically from 47-0 to 145, thanks to spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav who took nine wickets on Sunday.
This series loss is England’s first since Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum took charge as captain and coach. The final Test is set to take place in Dharamsala starting from March 7th.
