The International Cricket Council revealed that the recent Men’s ICC World Cup 2023 set a new attendance record among all ICC events.
Over 1.25 million fans attended the six-week extravaganza in India, surpassing the previous record set in 2015 in Australia and New Zealand, where 1.01 million spectators witnessed the matches.
The milestone was evident as early as the group stage match between South Africa and Afghanistan in Ahmedabad when the one-millionth fan entered the stadium.
The record was comfortably broken during the thrilling final between India and Australia at Narendra Modi Stadium, where over 90,000 fans gathered.
Australia secured a thrilling six-wicket win over India in the final, with Travis Head earning the Player of the Match title, contributing to Australia’s sixth World Cup victory.
While the 2015 event remains the second most attended ICC World Cup 2023, the 2019 edition in England and Wales saw 752,000 fans in attendance.
Besides the attendance record, the 2023 World Cup also made history in broadcast and digital viewership numbers.
