Sultans, led by Mohammad Rizwan, began their chase aggressively, but Zalmi’s debutant bowler Mehran Mumtaz played a pivotal role by delivering some economical overs.
Mumtaz claimed his first wicket in the form of Reeza Hendricks, who struggled during his brief innings, managing only 5 runs off 10 balls.
Despite Rizwan’s crucial contribution of 32 runs off 24 balls, he was run out by Aamer Jamal. Sultans’ chase slowed down in the middle, but Iftikhar Ahmed and Chris Jordan revived the momentum with blistering hitting.
Ahmed remained unbeaten with an impressive 60 off 27 balls, while Jordan added a quickfire 30 off 12 balls. However, their efforts fell short as Sultans finished four runs shy of the target.
Earlier, Zalmi opted to bat first and posted a competitive total of 204/5. Babar Azam led the charge with a brilliant half-century, scoring 64 runs off 40 balls. He was supported by contributions from Saim Ayub (46) and Haseebullah Khan (31). Usama Mir was the pick of the bowlers for Multan Sultans, claiming three wickets for 32 runs.
With this win in the PSL match, Peshawar Zalmi strengthened their position in the PSL 9 standings, while Multan Sultans have already secured their place in the playoffs with a victory over Karachi Kings in their previous match.
