PCB plans new selection panel for Australia tour selection

A new selection committee will choose Pakistan’s men’s cricket team for the Australia tour. Sources indicate the removal of the temporary selection committee, which stepped in following Inzamam-ul-Haq’s resignation as Chief Selector.

Tauseef Ahmed and Wajahatullah Wasti, leading the senior and junior selection committees respectively, have been relieved of their duties. The authority responsible for selecting the squad for the Down Under tour is yet to be determined.

Inzamam resigned on October 30 amid allegations of a “conflict of interest,” prompting these changes in the selection setup. Pakistan is gearing up for three Test matches scheduled between December 2023 and January 2024.

Before the series kicks off, Pakistan will engage in a four-day match against Prime Minister’s XI at Manuka Oval from December 6-9. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will convene with CA Chair of Selectors George Bailey and Selector Tony Dodemaide to discuss squad selection.

This match tradition dates back to 1951 and is the second under Albanese’s tenure, following a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This marks Pakistan’s third encounter with the Prime Minister’s XI after matches in 1990 and 2005.

Preparations are likely to take place in Rawalpindi, with the Test squad members set to report on November 20 and commence training on November 21.

The schedule for Pakistan’s Test tour of Australia is as follows:

  1. First Test: December 14-18, Perth Stadium
  2.  Second Test: December 26-30, Melbourne Cricket Ground
  3.  Third Test: January 3-7, Sydney Cricket Ground
