Australia secured an eight-wicket win over Pakistan in the final Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground, concluding the Pakistan vs Australia series. David Warner, in his farewell Test, played a memorable innings, scoring 57 runs in 75 balls. His contribution was crucial as Australia chased down a target of 130 runs, sealing a whitewash in the series.
Marnus Labuschagne’s unbeaten 62 also played a key role, partnering with Warner for a 119-run stand after the early dismissal of opener Usman Khawaja.
Sajid Khan took the wickets of both Australian openers during Pakistan’s second innings.
Pakistan struggled, getting dismissed for 115 in their second innings. Mohammad Rizwan and Aamer Jamal fought back, adding 42 runs for the eighth wicket before Rizwan fell to Nathan Lyon for 28. Jamal was caught off Pat Cummins for 18.
Thanks to Jamal’s figures of six for 69, Pakistan began their second innings with a narrow 14-run lead after Australia was bowled out for 299.
However, Australia’s pace attack, led by Josh Hazlewood with 4-16, turned the tide. Hazlewood’s three wickets in the penultimate over of the day left Pakistan struggling at 68-7, with an 82-run lead.
Pakistan’s poor performance in Australia continued, having lost 17 consecutive Tests there since their last win in 1995. Australia had already sealed the series with victories in the first two Tests in Perth and Melbourne before the Sydney fixture.
