Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, made the journey from Hyderabad to Ahmedabad for the ICC Captain Day ahead of the World Cup 2023, which took place on Wednesday.
During the event, all ten captains of the participating teams, including Babar Azam, Rohit Sharma, Pat Cummins, Jos Buttler, Kane Williamson, Dasun Shanaka, Temba Bavuma, Shakib Al Hasan, Hashmatullah Shahidi, and Scott Edwards, convened for a press conference and a photo session.
During the press conference, ICC Captain Day, Babar Azam, commented,
“We received excellent hospitality, which was quite unexpected. The way people have welcomed us, it’s been enjoyable. We’ve been here in Hyderabad for a week now, and it doesn’t feel like we’re in India; it feels like home. We’ve had a lot of fun, and I believe it’s a golden opportunity for all of us to give our best and savor the tournament to the fullest.”
Regarding the support received, Babar Azam expressed his wish for Pakistani fans to have the opportunity to come to India and show their support for the team.
“It would have been better if Pakistan fans also had the chance to come to India and cheer for us,” he added.
When discussing the playing conditions, Babar pointed out the similarities between the conditions in India and Pakistan, with the only notable difference being the shorter boundaries in India.
“We have played two games so far, and the conditions in India are quite similar to those we have in Pakistan. The primary difference is the shorter boundaries here, which means batsmen can capitalize if bowlers stray from their line,” he explained.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) also shared the journey of Babar Azam, as he made his way to Ahmedabad and met with Rohit Sharma.
New Zealand and England will play the opening match of the World Cup in Ahmedabad on October 5th.
