Pakistan’s newly-appointed Test captain, Shan Masood, took the spotlight on the opening day of the four-day match between Pak vs Aus PM XI in Canberra.
The stylish left-hander showcased his skill by scoring an unbeaten century, guiding his team to a total of 324-6 by stumps on Wednesday.
However, the newly appointed captain by PCB Shan Masood’s impressive knock of 156 runs from 235 balls included 13 fours and a six.
Pakistan, opting to bat first, faced an early setback with opener Imam-ul-Haq departing after scoring nine runs, caught by wicketkeeper Jimmy Peirson off Jordan Buckingham’s delivery.
However, Abdullah Shafique partnered with Masood, contributing 58 runs before falling to Mark Steketee after scoring 38 runs.
Star batsman Babar Azam, joining Masood after Shafique’s dismissal, accumulated 40 runs from 88 balls, comprising five boundaries, bolstering the score with a partnership of 92 runs alongside Masood.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Sarfaraz Ahmed played an aggressive innings, adding 41 runs from 47 balls, featuring six boundaries.
Saud Shakeel and Faheem Ashraf contributed 13 and 17 runs, respectively.
Jordan Buckingham emerged as the standout bowler for the home team, claiming figures of 3-63 in 17 overs.
Following the culmination of the four-day game, Pakistan is scheduled to engage in a three-match Test series against Australia.
