England’s batting lineup struggled against the formidable South African bowling attack, with three of their top-order batters – Dawid Malan, Joe Root, and Ben Stokes – failing to reach double digits.

England was on the verge of suffering a 300-run defeat, but a commendable effort by their tailenders, Gus Atkinson and Mark Wood helped them avoid that fate.

The duo built a 70-run partnership, with Wood top-scoring with an unbeaten 43 runs from just 17 deliveries.

Nevertheless, the entire English batting lineup was eventually dismissed for a total of only 170 runs as they lost wickets in quick succession.

South Africa had set a massive target of 400 runs after an impressive batting performance by their top and middle-order batsmen.

Despite the early loss of Quinton de Kock for just four runs in the first over, the Proteas continued to play aggressively. Reeza Hendricks and Russie van der Dussen built a crucial 121-run partnership. Heinrich Klaasen and Marco Jensen further added to the damage with a 151-run stand.

Klaasen played a rapid century, scoring 109 runs from just 67 deliveries with 16 boundaries, while Jensen contributed 75 runs from 42 deliveries, which included nine boundaries.

England’s bowlers Reece Topley took three wickets, while Gus Atkinson and Adil Rashid picked up two wickets each, but it wasn’t enough to contain South Africa’s formidable batting lineup.

South Africa’s emphatic win has put them in a strong position in the tournament, and they will face Bangladesh on October 24 at the same venue. England, on the other hand, faces a challenging path to the semi-finals and will play against Sri Lanka in Bengaluru on October 26.
