Earlier, the West Indies chose to bowl first against the USA after winning the toss.
After a brilliant bowling performance by the home team, the USA were bowled out for 128 in 19.5 overs when batting first. The bowler with the highest career average was Roston Chase-best figures of 3-19 in four overs. Andre Russell also clinched 3-31 in 3.5 overs.
“To do it [career-best figures] at home is a great feeling, with my parents and my friends watching. It’s something we talked about in the team meeting that if we don’t get too many wickets in the powerplay, it’s on the spinners to come back and pull the game back and that’s what we did today,” Chase, who was named Player of the Match, said.
“It’s our destiny and our goal to win the World Cup so anyone we play we have to beat from here to go win it,” he added.
Opening batsman Andries Gous led the USA in scoring with 29 runs in 16 balls. With 20 runs from Nitish Kumar, Ali Khan was still undefeated at 14 runs in six balls.
