PCB’s interim chief: Shah Khawar Assumes the Role of 5th Chairman in Under 14 Months

Shah Khawar, a Supreme Court Advocate and the Election Commissioner of PCB, has taken over as the Chairman of PCB, as per the notification dated January 23, 2024, from the Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Ministry.

Under Article 7(2) of the PCB Constitution, the Election Commissioner is granted the powers of Chairman PCB.

This marks Shah Khawar as the fifth individual to lead PCB in the past 14 months, succeeding Ramiz Raja, Najam Sethi, Ahmed Shehzad Farooq Rana, and Zaka Ashraf.

Expressing gratitude to PCB Patron Mr. Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, Khawar emphasizes his commitment to ensuring a free and transparent election for the Chairman PCB role.

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar, also PCB’s patron, has officially nominated Mohsin Naqvi to replace Zaka Ashraf on the Board of Governors (BoG). This move aligns with the PCB constitution following Ashraf’s resignation as Management Committee Chairman, with Federal Minister Fawad Hasan Fawad confirming Naqvi’s nomination.

The decision follows the acceptance of Ashraf’s resignation by the Prime Minister and sets the stage for Naqvi to potentially become the next PCB Chairman. If the election on February 8 proceeds as planned, Naqvi, having retired as caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab by then, could assume the chairmanship within a week after the election results are declared.
