Shaheen Shah Afridi makes history Fastest Fast-Bowler to Reach 100 ODI Wickets today against Bangladesh at Eden Garden Stadium Kolkata.
Pakistan’s star bowler, Shaheen Afridi, expressed his desire to play cricket fearlessly, drawing inspiration from his father-in-law and former Pakistan captain, Shahid Afridi. Shaheen, at the age of 24, achieved a significant milestone by becoming the fastest fast-bowler to claim 100 wickets in ODIs during the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023 match against Bangladesh.
The left-arm bowler reached this milestone in just 51 matches, surpassing Australia’s Mitchell Starc, who achieved the same feat in 52 matches. Pakistan emerged victorious in the game, chasing down the 205-run target with seven wickets to spare.
“Records are meant to be broken, and it’s a happy occasion that we’ve set records for Pakistan,” Shaheen said after the match.
Shaheen Afridi disclosed his aspiration to play cricket in the fearless style of Shahid Afridi, who is his hero and mentor
“Shahid Afridi always gives us tips; he is my hero. My effort is to play cricket like him,” he expressed
Reflecting on the game, Shaheen stated that Pakistan is aiming for a spot in the semi-finals and emphasized the importance of swiftly finishing matches to improve the net run rate
“We still aim to finish in the top four. Our effort today was to finish the match quickly and improve the net run rate” he explained.
Regarding Pakistan’s recent losses in the tournament, Shaheen acknowledged that there were some costly errors, including dropped catches and fielding lapses. However, he reassured me that the team is still in the competition and is determined to perform well in the upcoming matches.
Shaheen also praised his fellow pacers, Mohammad Wasim Jr. and Haris Rauf, for their contributions.
“Mohammad Wasim bowled really well. Haris Rauf plays an important role in the white-ball team. Bowlers like Lockie Ferguson are also conceding runs, pacy bowlers go for runs here. Haris is working hard, has taken wickets, and we hope he’ll improve even more,” he concluded.
